Democrat Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo extends “Stay Home, Work Safe” orders until 10 June 2020

As reported by the Houston ABC affiliate KTRK, Democrat Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo issued a ruling by judicial fiat:

idiotinamaskHarris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is expected to sign an order that will extend the county’s ‘Stay Home, Work Safe’ order until June 10.

Her office said the order will align with Gov. Greg Abbott’s current order. On Monday, Abbott announced additional reopenings that included bars and professional sports.

The decision has sparked an online debate, with some saying Hidalgo is trying to keep people safe, while others say the time has come to get on with our lives.

Earlier this month, Hidalgo issued a stay-at-home order just two days after the statewide stay-at-home order expired Thursday April 30. That has since expired on Wednesday.

In a tweet posted by Hidalgo, she wrote, “This is no time to tempt fate. As folks settle into a new normal please remember we don’t have a cure, and people are still getting sick. Keep yourself and your family safe by social distancing as best as you can and avoiding unnecessary contacts.”

This probably has more to do with convincing the population to vote by mail

When we consider the ways Democrat forces have worked to raise fear of  COVID-19, we could count:

From this pattern of trying to scare the American people and provide no hope, what will Democrats do?

We can see an overall pattern of trying to scare the population. But to what end? One possible end would be to push the use of mail-in ballots.

That’s right. Democrats think that you can stand in line at the grocery store and stand in line at the post office, but you cannot stand in line to vote.

Mail-in ballots have at least these shortcomings:

Additionally, Harris County Democrats have made certain that the fox is guarding the hen house

As reported in the Houston Chronicle explains that the bumbling Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman got Christopher Hollins (vice chairman for the Texas Democrat party) appointed as the interim Harris County Clerk.

A Houston lawyer and Texas Democratic Party official will serve as interim Harris County Clerk, taking the reins two months before voters cast ballots in primary runoffs in July.

Christopher Hollins
Christopher Hollins

Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted 3-2 along party lines to appoint Christopher Hollins, vice chairman for the state Democratic party. He will serve until a new clerk can be elected in November.

Incumbent Diane Trautman, who was elected in 2018, announced May 9 she would step down because of health issues. Trautman’s last day is May 31; Hollins will start the following day.

County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis said Hollins’ pledge to serve only on an interim basis factored in their decision.

“I’m committing to him with the understanding that he will bring his skill set to running the best election we can, for the sake of our county and democratic rights of all the residents, and not focusing on advancing personal political ambitions,” Hidalgo said.

Hollins, 33, was selected after 10 p.m., more than 12 hours after Commissioners Court convened, and did not address the body. He said in a statement Wednesday morning he was grateful for the opportunity.

Let’s see how appointing the chairman of the committee to defeat Lt. Governor Dan Patrick as election clerk over Dan Patrick’s district goes

Considering that Christopher Hollins most recently lead the committee to defeat Republican Dan Patrick and, now, he oversees the election in that politician’s district — it seems like there is a possibility for dirty tricks.

New Orleans Mayor issues coronavirus order allowing ban on sale, transportation of firearms

Breitbart reports on the action of the New Orleans Mayor as she works to restrict the ability of citizens to protect themselves during this crisis.

NewOrleansMayorLaToyaCantrellNew Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D) signed a coronavirus emergency order last week allowing her to ban the sale and transportation of firearms.

She signed a follow-up proclamation on March 16, 2020, further emphasizing her emergency powers to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation, of alcoholic beverages.”

The declaration declaring the mayor’s power to restrict gun sales and transportation says she is “empowered, if necessary, to suspend or limit the sale of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.”

On March 16, 2020, the Second Amendment Foundation responded to Cantrell’s claims of emergency powers over firearms by reminding her that they sued over Second Amendment infringement following Hurricane Katrina and will do so during the era of coronavirus if needed.

What could the reason for this ban be, other than symbolic?

This does not stop any law-abiding gun owner from protecting his or her property. However, it might keep a cash-strapped gun owner from paying his or her mortgage or rent in the event that there have been coronavirus-related layoffs. Additionally, it would prevent a law-abiding person from buying a firearm in a time of need.

However, there will be criminals in New Orleans with new guns. There may be coyotes selling an array of firearms not available legally and LaToya will not have a thing to say about it.

Still, now that she has pulled this little stunt, she will later produce a Mike-Bloomberg-esque commercial claiming that she stood up to the National Rifle Association.

Harris County Democrat Judge Lina Hidalgo restricts the operation of restaurants and closes bars

Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reports that Democrat Lina Hidalgo unilaterally closed all bars in Harris county and restricted the operation of all restaurants.

On Tuesday, bars closed in Harris County and restaurants switched to take-out, drive-through or delivery only. Those are just two of the big changes underway as officials try to slow to spread of COVID-19.

On Monday, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, alongside Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, announced the changes would take effect Tuesday morning and will be in place at least 15 days.

Since the county is under a public health emergency declaration, the county does have the authority to close down businesses, according to KHOU 11 legal analyst Gerald Treece.

“If the county deems that there is a health emergency, the county has the authority to close any establishment, including a bar,” Treece said. “You put the rules in neutral and general police power takes over. General police power: to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of that jurisdiction.”

During this time, if a business refuses to comply, the county does have authority to fine an establishment and then take the owner to court to seek an injunction, which would shut a business down, according to Treece.

If there are widespread compliance issues, the National Guard could step in.

“They can prevent violence, they can enforce the law, including injunctions, including an order from the city or county,” Treece said.

Take this with a grain of salt, since this order comes from a left-wing ideologue

Before you come to the defense of this woman, remember that Houston Public Media pointed out that this little dictator also dedicated taxpayer funds to the creation of an illegal alien defense fund without any public input. On multiple occasions, she has spoken out against the border wall (a stance that has disappeared online now that the poll suggesting that Americans favor an open border has been discredited).

Additionally, Ms. Hidlago can be remembered as the politician who allocated Hurricane Harvey’s disaster-recovery funds on the basis of skin color rather than damage, citing her theory of “equity.” What’s more, this egotistical, left-wing Millennial also answers to  the moniker of the liberal who attempted to triple Harris County’s property taxes just after a disaster and during a time that no no extra funds were needed (refer to the first paragraph regarding her creation of the illegal alien defense fund).

So, here you have a liberal who stands against the border wall (somewhat silently now), but builds borders around our bars and restaurants. She complains about equiity, but directs disaster-relief funds by skin color and not need. She wants to take from the rich (that is, anyone making over the median wage), but doesn’t mind making us all poor.

Although I do not support disobedience in this case, it seems that this liberal would stand much watching (just based on her track record). Remember, Jesus told us to be as innocent as doves and as wise as serpents.

Is this the new standard Democrat?

Previous Democrats issued subpoenas for pastors’ sermons, this one shuts down all churches with an order

Not that many years have passed since Mayor Annise Parker issued subpeonas to Houston-area pastors to intimidate them into not preaching against her transgender bathroom bill. Thankfully, Annise Parker lost in the courts of public opinion, in the ballot box over her bathroom bill, and in the separation of church and state decision.

Still, this blanket closing of all churches seems to be an overreach and the meeting of the goal imagined by Houston’s previous mayoral administration. Admittedly, as Christians, we must take into mind the needs of the least powerful among us. In this case, the least powerful would be those with compromised immune systems and the aged (which, depending on the person’s health, may vary from 65 to 85 as a in-risk group). The problem with just submitting to the whims of a dictatorial Millenial is, of course, that we may not be submitting to the will of God unless we submit the whole issue to prayer.

Additionally, in light of the following article, we have to ask whether we are praying to God or our own hubris.

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. (Proverbs 16:18 NASB)

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (James 1:27 NASB)

Baton Rouge area pastor defies governor, welcomes large gathering into church service

Baton Rouge CBS affiliate WAFB reports that Reverand Tony Spell has chosen to hold church meetings in violation of the order by the governor of Louisiana.

The Louisiana National Guard says it has not been tasked with breaking up large gatherings in the state, including at churches.

The statement comes on the heels of a pastor of a Louisiana church defying government orders by welcoming in hundreds of people into his church service Tuesday evening (March 17).

The gathering directly defied an order by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards that bans groups larger than 50 from gathering at any one time, including in churches. President Donald Trump has recommended no groups larger than 10.

TonySpellThe pastor, Rev. Tony Spell, says police showed up at the church after the service telling him the National Guard would break up any future gatherings that exceed 50 people.

However, Louisiana National Guard Colonel Ed Bush said Wednesday that is not accurate.

“The National Guard has not been tasked with enforcing any of the curfew, social distancing or meeting requirements as set by the governor,” Colonel Bush said. “Our focus right now is completely with helping state agencies with preparedness and medical readiness,” Bush added.

Numerous churches across the state have canceled services until further notice because of the governor’s proclamation, which he says aims to control the spread of the virus.

Harris Co. considers releasing inmates over COVID-19 concerns

According to Houston’s Fox affiliate, Democrat Sheriff Ed Gonzales wants to open the jails due to the coronavirus.

Jails and prisons can be breeding grounds for disease.

EdGonzales“We do have an aging population here we have several hundred that are above 55 years of age and also very sick,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

With more than 8,000 inmates at Harris County Jail, social distancing is not possible.

“We operate in tight spaces,” the sheriff said. “So there’s not a lot of opportunity for social distancing.”

There have been no known cases of COVID-19 in the Harris County Jail, but that will likely change.

Remember, most inmates in the jail are pre-trial, meaning they have not been convicted of a crime.

“We are working on our compassionate releases that are smart, that make sense, that don’t put the community at harm,” Gonzalez said. “It’s important for us to balance this public health crisis with public safety. So we are working with our judges and other avenues to see how we could, in a smart way, release population, if it makes sense.”

“There are no cases of TDCJ in or connected to any TDCJ facility,” says TDCJ spokesman Jeremy Desel.

Take in mind I have blogged repeatedly about murderers being released on bail

On numerous occasions, I have blogged about the result of electing the social justice judges who continually let murderers and other violent criminals out on the streets based on their inability to pay for the bail bond that a sane justice system would require.

Just in case you have forgotten, there was the case where Chicago’s Mayor defended the release of an illegal alien who raped a 3-year-old.

There is the case in Houston where a man on bond for murder robbed a convenience store while wearing an ankle monitor. During that armed robbery, surveillance cameras show him jumping over the counter and threatening the clerk with a gun. This man has been accused of murder in 2017 and 2018.

On 14 February 2020, I blogged about seven stories that concerned the numbers and types of criminals released by our Democrat judges.

As early as 7 February 2020, I blogged about a career criminal who killed three family members because he was out on bail.

So, if these past blog posts warm your heart, get ready for more (thanks not only to the social justice District Attorney Kim Ogg and the social justice Democrat judges, but also the social justice Sheriff Ed Gonzalez).

Not to be outdone by Texas, New York Democrats release inmates

With a hat tip to sfcmac, we find from the New York Post that New York Democrats have announced the release of inmates from city jails.

Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to release “vulnerable” inmates from city jails to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic into local lockups, he said Wednesday.

“In the next 48 hours, we will identify any inmates who need to be brought out because of either their own health conditions — if they have any pre-existing conditions, etc. — or because the charges were minor and we think it’s appropriate to bring them out in this context,” de Blasio said on WCBS radio Wednesday evening.

“That said, we still need our criminal justice system to function,” he added.

The announcement comes as a correction officer and an inmate both tested positive for the deadly illness in the past day.

The Correction Officers Benevolent Association union has called for new masks to protect its members and for all new detainees to be housed in facilities other than Rikers Island amid the outbreak.

Some city officials, including Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, have pushed for the city to begin releasing prisoners who are over 50 years old and at a low risk for reoffending.

What can I say?

I could ask that New York keep their criminals where they should be; however, the moving of criminals where they should be to other places seems to be the entire point of the article above.

The only thing I might suggest would probably be an impossibility in New York: vote conservative.

Speak to the Texas Republican Party

The Texas Republican Propositions, my suggestions, and a Biblical reasoning

The propositions put forward by Texas Republicans seek to get the pulse of the grass roots.

Therefore, I encourage you to inform yourself and vote on these propositions.

The following table includes the text of the proposition items, my suggestion for a vote, a reason for my suggestion, and a Bible verse backing that suggestion.

Prop Text: Yes / No ? Why: Verse & Explaination
Prop 1:
Texas should not restrict or prohibit prayer in public schools. Yes. It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after he had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1 NASB)

The best way to teach about prayer will be to teach it at home. However, to allow the use of prayer in school can only benefit.

Prop 2:
Texas should reject restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms. Yes. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 82:4 NASB)

We must have the opportunity to protect ourselves and others.

Prop 3:
Texas should ban the practice of taxpayer-funded lobbying, which allows your tax dollars to be spent on lobbyists who work against the taxpayer. Yes. Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; (Proverbs 22:2 NASB)

This prevents the powerful state from using the money of the people against the people.

Prop 4:
Texas should support the construction of a physical barrier and use existing defense-grade surveillance equipment along the entire southern border of Texas. Yes. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people whom He has choses for His own inheritance. (Psalm 33:12 NASB)

Because God recognizes the separations of nations and honors the nations that honor Him, people need to be able to defend their own borders.

Prop 5:
Texas parents or legal guardians of public school children under the age of 18 should be the sole decision makers for all their children’s healthcare decisions including, but not limited to, psychological assessment and treatment, contraception, and sex education. Yes. But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (1 Timothy 5:8 NASB)

It is up to the parents (especially the father) to protect the children.

Prop 6:
Texas should ban chemical castration, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and genital mutilation surgery on all minor children for transition purposes, given that Texas children as young as three (3) are being transitioned from their biological sex to the opposite sex. No. For each will bear his own load. (Galatians 6:5 NASB)

This proposition contradicts (in essence) the previous. It removes a “no” that the parent must voice and introduces the possibility that the state will make other decisions for the child without consulting the parents.

Prop 7:
Texans should protect and preserve all historical monuments, artifacts, and buildings, such as the Alamo Cenotaph and our beloved Alamo, and should oppose any reimagining of the Alamo site. Yes. So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever. (Joshua 4:7b NASB)

The importance of having a physical reminder of the past comes through here.

Prop 8:
Texas election officials should heed the directives of the Office of the Governor to purge illegal voters from the voter rolls and verify that each new registered voter is a U.S. Citizen. Yes. Stand firm, therefore, having girded your loins with truth. (Ephesians 6:14a NASB)

We must encourage truth among those who we entrust with governmental power.

Prop 9:
Bail in Texas should be based only on a person’s danger to society and risk of flight, not that person’s ability to pay. Yes. When the righteous increase, the people rejoice. But when a wicked man rules, people groan. (Proverbs 29:2 NASB)

The release of murderers by social justice judges has resulted in the murder of innocents.

Prop 10:
Texas should limit our state legislators’ terms to 12 years. Yes. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NASB)

Because we are imperfect people, limiting the amount of power any one person has over us only makes sense.

Seems like now would be a good time to shut off Netflix

More Than A Million People Sign Petition Bashing Netflix Movie Implying Jesus Christ Is Gay

The Daily Caller reports that more than a million people have signed a petition against Netflix for their anti-Christian movie.

More than one million people have signed a petition against a Netflix movie that implies Jesus Christ is gay.

“The First Temptation of Christ” is reportedly a satirical representation of Jesus Christ, his mother Mary, and his father Joseph, in which Jesus returns home for his birthday party with a friend named Orlando, according to the New York Daily News. The publication reports that Orlando continuously hints in the film that he and Jesus are more than friends.

Netflix advertises the Brazil-produced film as a Christmas special, the Daily News reports, and it aired on Netflix Brazil on Dec. 3.

porta-dos-fundos-emmyThe comedy group Porta dos Fundos (which translates to Back Door) created “The First Temptation of Christ” following their International Emmy Award-winning production of “The Last Hangover,” a movie which satirizes the biblical Last Supper, the last meal Jesus Christ shared with his disciples before he was crucified.

(Read more at the Daily Caller)

The Porta group has made three insulting Jesus. Have they been as adventurous with Mohammad?

Maybe they remember the reaction of Islam to the insults of Charlie Hebdo (much as the editors of the New York Daily News refused to associate with Charlie Hebdo by blurring the images of the attacked publication).

The Porta group knows better than to attack any religious group for their beliefs; however, my bet is that this group of “humorists” would not do an equivalent exposé of environmentalists, Hillary, or another liberal target.

More than 1.5 million sign petition blasting Netflix for gay Jesus movie

The Washington Examiner tells of 1.5 million signers of a petition at Change.org protesting a gay Jesus movie.

More than 1.5 million people have signed a petition demanding Netflix to remove a film that depicts Jesus Christ as gay.

The First Temptation of Christ is the second satirical film about Jesus from the International Emmy-winning comedy group Porta dos Fundos, which translates to “back door.” Their new movie, which is 46 minutes long, is about Jesus returning to his parents’ home for his birthday with his new friend, Orlando. There are hints that Jesus and Orlando are romantically involved.

Marco_Feliciano
Marco Feliciano

The film has received immense criticism in Brazil. One Brazilian congressman, Marco Feliciano, who has a history of anti-gay and lesbian comments, expressed his outrage on social media, noting that “Christians and non-Christians have asked me to take action against the irresponsible members of Porta do Fundo.”

The petition on Change.org has more than 1.5 million signatures as of Saturday afternoon. The description on the petition calls for Porta dos Fundos to “be held responsible for the crime of villainous faith,” and it called for a retraction.

As of the afternoon of 16 December 2019, the count of signers has passed 1.8 million

If you have not signed or if three people you know have not signed, maybe we could get this to 2 million by the 17th.

Bishop Denounces Netflix as ‘Blasphemous’ over Gay Jesus

Breitbart reports in a 16 December 2019 article on a pronouncement by a Bishop in Tyler, Texas.

The Catholic bishop of Tyler, Texas, has denounced Netflix as blasphemous over its release of a Christmas Special titled The First Temptation of Christ portraying Jesus as gay.

Bishop_Joseph_Strickland,_Tyler,_Texas,_September_2012“Respect is the last thing they are thinking about, every Christian should denounce this film, it is blasphemy against the Son of God who suffered & died even for all who deny that He is Lord of the Universe,” said Bishop Joseph Strickland in a tweet Sunday. “His prayer for them…. ‘Father forgive them they know not what they do.’”

“Just cancelled Netflix,” the bishop tweeted a little later. “Hardly have time to watch it anyway but blasphemers don’t deserve a penny of support!”

Strickland also retweeted a message from the host of the popular “Dear America Podcast,” Graham Allen, who similarly condemned the film, arguing that “Jesus isn’t some ‘woke’ culture experiment for you to convince young people that biblical teachings are ‘debatable’?!”

Bishop Strickland is not alone in his outrage against Netflix over its Christmas special released in Brazil as A Primeira Tentaçao de Cristo, which shows Jesus Christ in a gay relationship and the Virgin Mary as a pot-smoker.

Last week, the Brazilian Catholic bishops conference released its own statement condemning the show, saying that “in the name of freedom of expression and artistic creativity, profoundly assault[s] the Christian faith.”

“Ridiculing the belief of a group, whatever it may be, in addition to constituting an offense under criminal law, means disrespecting all people, damaging the quest for an effectively democratic society that values all its citizens,” the bishops said in a December 12 statement.

While recognizing that we live in a pluralistic society and that not everyone has the same beliefs, the bishops called for respect of people’s beliefs as “an ethical and democratic requirement.

“Nothing allows anyone the right to vilify people’s deeply held beliefs,” the bishops said. “The right to freedom of expression does not nullify respect for people and their values.”

(Read more at Breitbart)

Although I hail from another tradition of Christianity, I stand behind the words of this Catholic Bishop

The problem that has been touched in this article is that there can be no separation between the legal and holy in our society. While these insults may be an affront to God (and, therefore, classify as blasphemy), our pluralistic society (and our forgiving God) demand that sinners be able to sin in this manner.

The problem with this arrangement is that that there is no reciprocity on the part of the left. There doesn’t seem to be anything but anecdotal accounts of gays that want to live and let live when it comes to the respect of beliefs. There is no Saturday Night Live that skewers Antifa.

Rather, they give out awards for mocking Christians. Additionally, they want their Christian slaves to involuntarily provide creative work in the form of photo essays (Photos by Elaine), flower arrangements (Baronelle Stutzman), decorated cakes (Jack Philips), and other work.

Therefore, it seems like now is the time for Christians to cancel Netflix. For those who do not have a Netflix subscription, I have heard that there have been campaigns of rejecting ads on Twitter and Facebook from Netflix.

Gratitude challenge

A Gratitude Challenge

We were made for praise of God

From the fact that Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:22), Noah walked with God (Genesis 6:9), and Adam knew the sound of God walking in the garden (Genesis 3:8), it seems that humans were made for fellowship with God.

Later, God revealed that He created men for His glory (Isaiah 43:7). To reinforce the initial point, God reminded of this essential directive in:

  • to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:21a NASB)
  • Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 NASB)
  • “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” (Revelation 4:11 NASB)

God’s Word commands gratitude — a lesson by Mark Ramsey

The following verses point us toward gratitude toward God.

The earth is the Lord’s , and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. (Psalms 24:1 NASB)

Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. (Psalms 145:2 NASB)

Shout joyfully to the Lord , all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalms 100:1‭-‬5 NASB)

I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. (Psalms 139:14 NASB)

And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.” (Revelation 5:13 NASB)

Sing to the Lord a new song; Sing to the Lord , all the earth. (Psalms 96:1 NASB)

pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:17‭-‬18 NASB)

Bless the Lord , O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; (Psalms 103:2 NASB)

Therefore, let me (among other Christians) offer you a Gratitude Challenge

g-k-chestertonG. K. Chesterson, an English author, once stated that his ultimate goal in life was to take nothing for granted — not a sunrise, a flower, a laugh. If we did that, we should praise God without ceasing.

According to the Talmud, if you enjoy something without saying a blessing, it is as if you had stolen it. “A man embezzles from God when he makes use of this world without uttering a blessing.”

How many blessings have we shoplifted? How many large blessings are we guilty of grand larceny? We make restitution by recognizing that every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). Anything less is embezzlement.

Here’s a little maxim to think about: whatever you don’t turn into praise, turns into pride. Also, often gratitude turns into generosity.

ten-lepers-healed-570x305Remember the 10 lepers who Jesus healed? Only one of them was healed of ingratitude.

Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. (Luke 17:15‭-‬16 NASB)

Gratitude is a pilgrimage back to the cross. It gives thanks and glory to God.

Gratitude Challenge

For the Gratitude Challenge, you will need:

  1. A journal
  2. To write down 3 gratitudes per day
  3. To do it for 40 days
  4. The help of an accountability partner

Issues for Christians

Christians hunted, marked for death, meet secretly

OneNewsNow reports in a 6 December 2019 article how Christians suffer in Muslim-dominated lands.

syriachild.jpgFor those living in a Muslim island nation and various parts of West Africa, being a Christian means one is marked for death – and those who translate the Bible will likely never return to their homes again … alive.

Wycliffe Associates, one of the world’s leading Bible translation organizations, says workshops and strategies for Bible translation often spring forth from clandestine meetings between its team members and mother-tongue Bible translators.

Undercover Christians

Such workshops, reports Wycliffe Associates, “are springing out of the seeds sown in these secret meetings” – meetings that may take place on an isolated mountain top, or among church leaders disguised as tourists, or during a walk through a crowded market where translators’ prayers and conversations are drowned out by the noise and bartering.

Persecution for following Christ and translating Scripture into native languages in these volatile regions include being hunted, receiving death threats and working in secret to avoid imminent death.

Wycliffe Associates president and CEO Bruce Smith commends native Bible translators for secretly meeting with his ministry team, as the risk of being caught with foreigners could mean death.

“Despite the persecution and risks they face, Christians are reaching out to us, asking for the tools, technology, and training they need to launch Bible translation projects,” Smith states. “I am humbled and overwhelmed to see the tenacity of Christians in the most extreme anti-Christian environments on earth.

“In spite of the hostility of religious and governmental authorities, in spite of the risk of violence, of arrest, of torture, even death, Christians ardently press on,” he adds.

MAST (Mobilized Assistance Supporting Translation) – a collaborative translation method employed by the international nonprofit organization – equips native Christians to share the written Word where it is strictly forbidden. MAST projects currently under way across the globe number more than 1,200. The ministry also equips mother-tongue translators with technology that complements MAST, including computer tablets, Print-On-Demand equipment, and Bible translation recording kits.

In fact, in a number of areas that crack down on Christianity, believers must abandon their home country if they want to translate the Bible and stay alive.

“In some countries, we’ve helped move national Bible translators out of their own countries because their lives are literally at risk if they attempt to translate the Scriptures in their homeland,” Smith shares. “Some translators are at such risk that they will never be able to go home again. The translated Scriptures will have to be smuggled back across the border.”

Tragic stories of Christians giving up their lives and safety are not uncommon in this part of the world.

According to Wycliffe Associates, a translator in West Africa recently was murdered and his wife was mutilated; and one pastor – a hunted man – was forced to flee his country and now lives under a “virtual death sentence.” Regardless, says the ministry, that pastor remains firmly committed to the work of Bible translation for his language group.

Pray for an Islamic reformation where it moves from a cult of death

Pray for a change in the heart of Islam so that the focus moves from killing the enemies of Islam, from killing those who leave Islam, from visiting some form of “revenge” on those who have been deemed to insult Islam, from executing the deviants within the community, from falling on members of certain other named religious communities, and from otherwise focusing on death.

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew 5:44‭-‬45 NASB)

Speaking Truth not Tolerated at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

It seems that a pro-LGBTQ agenda has crept into the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, as reported by the American Family Association.

SWBTS_Lopez.pngRobert Oscar Lopez is an outspoken witness to the power of God to transform a life.  He was raised by “two moms” and identified as bisexual for years before surrendering his life to Christ.

He has spent his life fighting. First, it was for his own life – for freedom from the clutches of homosexuality. Then it was (and is) against the attacks from the homosexual activist community. Read AFA Journal story “Breaking Free from a Culture of Shame” here.

This man’s resiliency is astounding.

And now he’s fighting one of the most powerful religious organizations in existence – the Southern Baptist Convention.

Prior to being hired in 2016 by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS), Lopez was a tenured professor at California State University. In today’s culture, it is no surprise that a former homosexual now speaking from a biblical perspective would be persecuted.

After repeated subjection to senselessly demeaning investigations at the public university, the sense of relief Lopez experienced when “rescued” into a Christian seminary must have been palpable. The pressure to shut up about his testimony and matters of biblical sexual morality was a thing of the past. Or so he thought.

Last week, the morning after Thanksgiving Day, Lopez received an email notifying him that his position at SWBTS had been eliminated. He told AFA this wasn’t really a surprise to him. He had been asked to resign two months earlier by the provost, Randy Stinson.

“I was called into seven secret meetings,” he explained. “They would never put anything in writing. I was called in alone all the time. I didn’t know who was going to be in the meetings. And I had no forewarning about what was going to be brought up. It was very much like mental intimidation. … They told me people were watching me.”

As part of the series of meetings, Lopez was told he was held in low esteem by the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. Initially, he was subjected to an onerous process, requiring him to submit requests before writing or speaking on sexual matters. But eventually, Dean Michael Wilkinson made clear that Lopez was to stop talking about all matters of sexuality, including his testimony, homosexuality, and sex abuse.

Lopez had been active in writing and speaking about the dangers of the Equality Act and abuse in the gay community. And he had drafted and submitted a resolution to the SBC supporting counseling to help lead people out of homosexuality.  These were all apparently giant no-nos for the SBC, which according to Lopez has embraced the “Revoice” ideology.  Revoice is a radical movement to promote normalization and acceptance of LGBTQ terms within the church – creating a slippery slope which many believe will lead to full-blown acceptance of homosexuality.

Nothing good comes from capitulation

As we know by the capitulation of Chick-Fil-A to the LGBTQ crowd or by any of any number of reports by Janet Mefferd on “Revoice,” giving in to the demands of the the LGBTQ crowd will only result in a new set of demands to be met. Therefore, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary must not bend as it seems to be doing.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, (1 Corinthians 6:9 NASB)

Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth , and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (Ephesians 6:14 NASB)

Hundreds of Pakistani Christians Sold as Brides to China

Breitbart reports in a 7 December 2019 article on the selling of

pakistan-christiansPage after page, the names stack up: 629 girls and women from across Pakistan who were sold as brides to Chinese men and taken to China. The list, obtained by The Associated Press, was compiled by Pakistani investigators determined to break up trafficking networks exploiting the country´s poor and vulnerable.

The list gives the most concrete figure yet for the number of women caught up in the trafficking schemes since 2018.

But since the time it was put together in June, investigators´ aggressive drive against the networks has largely ground to a halt. Officials with knowledge of the investigations say that is because of pressure from government officials fearful of hurting Pakistan´s lucrative ties to Beijing.

The biggest case against traffickers has fallen apart. In October, a court in Faisalabad acquitted 31 Chinese nationals charged in connection with trafficking. Several of the women who had initially been interviewed by police refused to testify because they were either threatened or bribed into silence, according to a court official and a police investigator familiar with the case. The two spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared retribution for speaking out.

At the same time, the government has sought to curtail investigations, putting “immense pressure” on officials from the Federal Investigation Agency pursuing trafficking networks, said Saleem Iqbal, a Christian activist who has helped parents rescue several young girls from China and prevented others from being sent there.

“Some (FIA officials) were even transferred,” Iqbal said in an interview. “When we talk to Pakistani rulers, they don´t pay any attention. ”

Why does this happen?

It happens because the Christian community of Pakistan has been isolated economically. It happens because China has limited its families to having one child per family. It happens because, with a preference for boys in Eastern cultures, generations of female babies have been aborted due to the one-child mandate.

It happens when a cowardly political class cannot find itself within its black heart to do the right thing. It also happens when a complacent media will not speak up for the underdog (especially when that media stands arrayed against a group like Christians).

Finally, it happens for reasons, both holy and evil, that fly out of our control. Nonetheless, we must prefer our brothers and sisters in Christ when moved by the Spirit.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; (Romans 12:10 NASB)

Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55:6 NASB)

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7 NASB)

Nancy Pelosi calls President Trump “a coward” & then invokes God

Nancy Pelosi calls President Trump a coward & then invokes God

As reported by Yahoo News on 6 December 2019, Nancy Pelosi reacted violently to a question from James Rosen of Sinclair News. Possibly in response to the observed Trump Derangement Syndrome observed by the reporter, that reporter asked, “Do you hate President Trump?” In response, the following came:

SanFranNanI think the president is a coward when it comes to helping our kids who are afraid of gun violence.

I think he is cruel when he doesn’t deal with helping our “Dreamers.” I think he’s in denial about the climate crisis. However, that is about the election. Take it up in the election. This is about the Constitution of the United States and the facts that lead to the president’s violation of his oath of office.

As a Catholic, I resent you using the word “hate” in a sentence that addresses me. I don’t hate anyone. I was raised in a way that is a heart full of love and always pray for the president. And I still pray for the president. I pray for the president all the time. So don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that.

So she says that she does not hate; however, what do her actions say?

First, take the actions within this presser

Even if we limit our attention to this presser, we see that she called the President a “coward” for not accepting gun control measures. In truth, no gun control law has made people more safe (otherwise, Chicago would be one of the safest cities in the nation — rather than one of the leading murder capitals). Therefore, her calling the President a “coward” was nothing but an empty insult.

Regarding empty insults, Jesus said (but the emphasis is mine):

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘ You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. (Matthew 5:22 NASB)

In addition to endangering herself of fiery hell by assigning an empty insult to the President, Ms. Pelosi went on to mix in several lies. First, she accused him of cruelty regarding “our Dreamers.” The problem is that the last President originally repeatedly said that he could not change immigration law. Then he changed it by executive fiat (also known as abuse of power). No laws were passed to accommodate this new class of non-citizens (although Trump offered a deal that the Democrats and Pelosi rejected). Hence, she cannot honestly claim that Trump alone has acted cruelly toward the Dreamers.

Regarding the third accusation by Pelosi (on how Trump has been denying climate change), since AOC’s Chief of Staff admitted that their climate change initiative was only introduced as a means to introduce socialism, we can all afford to deny “climate change” or “global smarming” or whatever junk science name Democrats decide to assign to their smoke and mirrors.

Consider her actions for and against the powerless

By asking you to consider her actions regarding the powerless, I primarily speak of the unborn. Her side calls them “fetuses” and uses other euphemisms. However, more to the point, her party has recently promoted full-term abortion. And though we cannot blame her for the over 45 million babies killed in the US between 1973 and 2015, Democrats cannot be held blameless. Therefore, for Pelosi to claim her Catholic faith while not renouncing her commitment to abortion means denying the core of the following Biblical mandates:

You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; (Exodus 22:22‭-‬23 NASB)

You have seen it, for You have beheld mischief and vexation to take it into Your hand. The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan. (Psalms 10:14 NASB)

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land. (Psalms 68:5‭-‬6 NASB)

The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, But He thwarts the way of the wicked. (Psalms 146:9 NASB)

Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all the unfortunate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy. (Proverbs 31:8‭-‬9 NASB)

Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow. (Isaiah 1:17 NASB)

Honor widows who are widows indeed; (1 Timothy 5:3 NASB)

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (James 1:27 NASB)

but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. (Matthew 18:6 NASB)

By asking you to consider her actions regarding the powerless, I also could be talking about her lack of action in support of the poor of America. That is, the people who the Democrats have forgotten in their headlong rush to accommodate illegal aliens. Admittedly, while we will always have poor in America, opportunities for the poor have reduced with the Democrat’s drive to aid the illegal aliens through sanctuary cities, Democrat policies, and other initiatives.

In the current context of her presser, I might also refer to the President the United States of America. As soon as the Democrats voted for the impeachment procedures, we knew that:

Consider her position as a Democrat

The Democrats — the party who booed God and removed reference to Him from their party platform — this is the party that Nancy Pelosi leads. Therefore, this is the party that might have some Christian influence were she as much of a Christian as she claims. In her position in the “party of the “nones” and the party whose most recent President sued religious organizations to force them to violate their consciences — she could make a difference.

That is, she could make a difference if she were a true follower of the Church.

Give the devil his due, she does make one right references

Pelosi does correctly note that Christians should pray for their leaders, for we are told:

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:1‭-‬2 NASB)

However, as we know of Satan when he came to tempt Jesus, he came misquoting and then ignoring the central points to scripture (Mark 4:1-11).

PelosiOnAbortionAdditionally, while we know that Christians are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), we also know that faith without works is worthless (James 2:18-26). Therefore, Nancy Pelosi’s proclamation of Christian love, prayer, and faith without any proof of it within her professional life seems pretty useless.
