Fetal tissue firms in undercover pro-life investigation shutter after $7.8 million settlement

A 12 December 2017 Washington Times article documents how the undercover films of David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt have resulted in the shuttering of two fetal tissue firms.

Two California biomedical firms named in an undercover video investigation of the sale of fetal tissue from abortions are shutting down after reaching a $7.8 million settlement with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

As part of the settlement, DV Biologics LLC and sister company DaVinci Biosciences LLC were ordered to cease all operations in California within 60 to 120 days and admit liability for unlawfully selling fetal tissues and cells for profit.

“This settlement seizes all profits from DV Biologics and DaVinci Biosciences, which they acquired by viewing body parts as a commodity and illegally selling fetal tissues for valuable consideration,” District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said in a statement. “These companies will never be able to operate again in Orange County or the State of California.”

Prosecutors opened the investigation into the fetal tissue companies in 2015 after undercover videos released by the pro-life Center for Medical Progress showed top Planned Parenthood executives and others in the abortion industry discussing the market for the human remains from abortions.

David Daleiden, CMP project leader, praised prosecutors for shuttering the biomedical firms and called on them to investigate Planned Parenthood’s role in the operation.

Thank you, Mr. Daleiden, for your indirect protection of the unborn by exposing the barbarity of abortion.

Face facts, America, Donald Trump is a success. Let’s count the ways.

USA Today credits President Trump with the following successes in a 20 December 2017 article.

1. Tax cuts: Congress has passed a tax overhaul, but just the anticipation of tax reform, which will cut the corporate rate to 21%, has excited business owners and fueled stock market records.
2. Economic growth: The GDP has grown by more than 3% for two quarters in a row.
3. Consumer confidence: In October, consumer confidence rose to the highest level in 17 years, according to the New York-based Conference Board.
4. Deregulation: Trump has cut 67 Obama-era regulations and added only three new rules. The rollback on regulations has spurred business confidence, economic activity and stock market growth. A senior official said the actions have saved $8.1 billion in lifetime net regulatory costs.
5. Stock market: The Dow has set record highs 70 times this year, rising 5,000 points in a year for the first time in history.
6. Judicial appointments: Trump has staffed the judiciary with constitutionalists such as Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.
7. Unemployment: Granted, Trump inherited low unemployment numbers from President Obama, but the number of people collecting unemployment benefits has continued to fall to a near 44-year low.
8. Trade: Trump worked out a trade deal with China, Vietnam and South Korea.
9. Israel: The United States’ relationship with Israel has been much improved since the last administration.
10. Immigration: In August, illegal border crossing apprehensions were down 41% on the southern border compared to August 2016.
11. U.S. energy: The Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines are under construction. Jobs to be created: 42,000.
12. Coal: Trump stopped Obama’s war on coal.
13. Climate Change: Trump announced in June that he plans to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement, citing that it would undermine our economy.
14. Schools: Trump is giving the green light to school-choice programs across the country.
15. Obamacare Fail: Congress failed to ‘repeal and replace’ the Affordable Care Act, but if the tax reform bill is passed, Obamacare’s individual mandate will be repealed.

President Trump appoints and has confirmed a record number of appeals court nominees

Time reports in a 15 December 2017 article how Trump has outpaced Obama in the appointment of appeals court appointees.

President Trump likes to tout his appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court as one of his main accomplishments in his first year in office. But he broke an important record Thursday that proves he also stands to have a major effect on lower courts.

As of Thursday, Trump set a record for the most ever federal appeals judges confirmed during the first year of a presidency, Axios reports. Trump has successfully appointed 12 so far; President Barack Obama confirmed just three in his first year, and President George W. Bush confirmed six. He beat out presidents Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy, who each confirmed 11.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Republican head of the Judiciary Committee, cheered the historic milestone on Twitter Thursday:

The Trump Administration struggled to make good on many legislative and policy pledges in 2017, including repealing the Affordable Care Act and building a border wall, but the swift confirmation of conservative judges marks a promise well-kept to Republican voters. “President Trump has delivered on this issue, which was one of the primary reasons they voted for him,” Penny Nance, president of the socially conservative Christian group Concerned Women for America, said in a statement.
