A Baby’s Prayers
When a child repeats a prayer while under the gaze of a parent, that prayer may be offered to please the parent. However, when the child prays while alone, that child has started to cement her (or his) own relationship with God.
After putting their baby daughter to bed, the Whitts heard noises in the baby’s room. On further inspection, the noise turned out to be the prayers of their daughter.
And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:2-4 NASB)
Babies are just about as humble as people can be. They know that they must depend on others for food. They reach out their arms when they seek to be carried.
In the video above, the baby asks for God’s blessings on those who care for her (mom, dad, Santa, …).
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NASB)
We should all note something that separates our prayer from the prayer of this baby: there is no anxious tone in the baby’s voice. Additionally, I doubt that the baby followed up this prayer with anxious attempts to fulfill the requests on her own.
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6 NASB)
You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. (Deuteronomy 11:19 NASB)
With my limited knowledge of this baby, I can still say that her parents seem to have fulfilled the commandments of these verses.
